Katie Chang is a ceramic artist who primarily sculpts vases out of porcelain. She is interested in ceramics and pottery as a process for creativity and practicing mindfulness. Her work is intended to be perceived as joyful and it is meant to provide viewers time to feel presence. Her work is made primarily on an electric pottery wheel with colorful glazes fired in an electric kiln. She creates work to provide herself and others moments of refuge throughout the day, and she enjoys the practice as it continues to encourage her to grow. The use of porcelain is intentional because of its unique nature. When it is thin enough, porcelain can be translucent, and as a result convey feelings of delight and awe.
